Shakespeare at the Bead Museum
January 21, 2007 through June 16, 2007

Hamlet and Cleopatra welcome visitors to the Bead Museum's Shakespeare in Washington exhibits. Beads and the Bard presents ornaments and accessories created for Shakespeare's characters by notable Washington area designers. Creations are free artistic interpretations or inspired by paintings from Shakespeare's era. Pieces are thematically arranged: The Magical, the Historical, Innocence Betrayed, Dark Forces and Love Games. Curated by Ellen Benson, Beads and The Bard take you on an aesthetic and literary adventure.

To Bead or Not to Bead, curated by Tim Morgan, is an exploration of the historical use of beads and adornment in Shakesperian costuming. This exhibit explores roles of gems and adornment in costuming during Shakespeare's time. Photo images of 19th and 20th Century actors in costume courtesy of the Folger Shakespeare Library.
